What is Brown Girl Love?

Brown Girl Love is the love that lies underneath our struggle as people of color.  This love is often trampled by the day to day: bills, jobs, death, depression, racism, homophobia and the list goes on.  We are so busy with our lives’ we rarely have time to be present to the power of our unique, multifaceted love.

Brown Girl Love is an online writing project inspired by the love between my partner and I.  This project is my great attempt to share that love with the world.  It is a glimpse into my explorations through love for myself, my family, my friends and my life.  More importantly it is a project featuring the works of new and emerging female writers of color.

Why Brown Girl Love?

Brown Girl Love has to fight to stay alive.  Often brown girls are told they have no right to love, that our history has determined the limits and boundaries of giving and receiving it.  It is time we put down that narrative and starting writing for and about love as if it is our birthright.  Brown Girl Love exists to empower woman of color to create love on their own terms.  It exists to inspire woman to write and speak love into being.
